God Sees You- Day 14

When the realisation that God’s eye is on you hits you, it evokes such an indescribable sense of awe and wonder. Have you ever felt seen by God in a moment? Like truly seen? There’s no way to describe the feeling that hits you when you realise that the God of the entire universe, knows you and sees you?

God is El Roi. The God who sees YOU. I want you to say to yourself “God sees me”.

God sees you dear reader, truly He does.

This morning he woke me up at 5am and said, tell them I am the God who sees them.

I see you always. My eyes are constantly fixed on you. There has never been a moment in your life when my gaze was not fixed on you. I am the All Seeing God.

Jesus

I’m sure David spent time considering the fact that God saw him, and the awe of this realisation made him write the Psalm below.

'Lord, you know everything there is to know about me. You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind. You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins. You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins. You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. You have laid your hand on me! This is just too wonderful, deep, and incomprehensible! Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength. Where could I go from your Spirit? Where could I run and hide from your face? If I go up to heaven, you’re there! If I go down to the realm of the dead, you’re there too! If I fly with wings into the shining dawn, you’re there! If I fly into the radiant sunset, you’re there waiting! Wherever I go, your hand will guide me; your strength will empower me. It’s impossible to disappear from you or to ask the darkness to hide me, for your presence is everywhere, bringing light into my night. There is no such thing as darkness with you. The night, to you, is as bright as the day; there’s no difference between the two. You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb. I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord! You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place; carefully, skillfully you shaped me from nothing to something. You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the light of day , the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book. Every single moment you are thinking of me! How precious and wonderful to consider that you cherish me constantly in your every thought! O God, your desires toward me are more than the grains of sand on every shore! When I awake each morning, you’re still with me. Every single moment you are thinking of me! How precious and wonderful to consider that you cherish me constantly in your every thought! O God, your desires toward me are more than the grains of sand on every shore! When I awake each morning, you’re still with me.'

Psalms 139:1-18

WOW! God sees me. Really? It’s such an exciting thought. Reader the Lord truly sees you. His eyes are fixed on you. Hagar, who bore a son for Abraham ran away from home and was crying about being mistreated by her mistress. God sent an angel to her, and made her beautiful promises. Hagar was a servant and in those days, servants were treated as property. She basically had no rights. But Yahweh saw her. In awe, her response was “You are the God who sees me.”.

'The angel of the Lord found Hagar beside a spring of water in the wilderness, along the road to Shur. The angel said to her, “Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress, Sarai,” she replied. The angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit to her authority.” Then he added, “I will give you more descendants than you can count.” And the angel also said, “You are now pregnant and will give birth to a son. You are to name him Ishmael (which means ‘God hears’), for the Lord has heard your cry of distress. This son of yours will be a wild man, as untamed as a wild donkey! He will raise his fist against everyone, and everyone will be against him. Yes, he will live in open hostility against all his relatives.” Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord , who had spoken to her. She said, “You are the God who sees me.” She also said, “Have I truly seen the One who sees me?” So that well was named Beer-lahai-roi (which means “well of the Living One who sees me”). It can still be found between Kadesh and Bered. '

Genesis 16:7-14

As a servant, nobody had probably ever noticed her or stopped to give her a kind word. Yet, here was the God of the whole universe showing that He cared. Hagar didn’t have to do anything to merit God’s attention, His kindness or His promises. He did those things because He is simply a gracious God who loves to give good and lavish gifts.

Think of the encounter Nathaniel had with Jesus.

'The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Come, follow me.” Philip was from Bethsaida, Andrew and Peter’s hometown. Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him, “We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.” “Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael. “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” “Come and see for yourself,” Philip replied. As they approached, Jesus said, “Now here is a genuine son of Israel—a man of complete integrity.” “How do you know about me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus replied, “I could see you under the fig tree before Philip found you.” Then Nathanael exclaimed, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God—the King of Israel!” '

John 1:43-49

The clip below completely wrecked me when I watched it. It captures the encounter so beautifully. He believed in Jesus because he realised Jesus saw him!

Beloved one, Jesus sees you.
